Therapy

Posted in Group:

I know that I need to see a therapist but i've had a few encounters with therapists and they were never good. Communication isn't my strong point and I don't really want to make an appointment and not be able to say anything. I'm just a little a scared and I don't really know what to do.

Hi Lucinda,

You might want to consider seeing a Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist. These folks have had a lot of extra training to help them work with folks like us, and that's good because they already know much of what's going on with you, so you won't really have to educate them on sexual addiction. Also, these folks are great at asking questions to draw you out. That way, you won't always feel like you need to fill in the empty time, they'll help you do that. You can find a listing of these Certified Sexual Addiction Therapists on either of two (2) websites:

Sex Help
www.sexhelp.com/

Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health
www.sash.net/

Just an idea, something for you to think about. I hope it proves helpful. Good luck!!

Charlie

I am in the same boat. I know that I need some therapy sessions but it is really hard to start. I dread calling and trying to set up an appointment. I know though that eventually I will have to.

i dont know about u but in my area there are not any certified sex addiction specialists but there are like addiction specialists. you mmight not always like the first couple of people u meet, so you half to keep looking to you find the one you like i know from experience. i am a sex addict and a alcoholic. it is hard at first when someone is coming straight out and telling you what YOU ARE! you dont want to hear it or accept it. i have cussed out a therapist before and said you dont fucking know me, but i realized that they know what they are talking about and he was just telling me what i was and i didn't want to accept it. that might be why you don't like going to see therapist becausse they are telling you the same thing, but i am not in the room with you so i dont know i can just tell you from my experiences and i hope this helps. I have come to terms with what i am and once i didn't that therapy has come alot easier in both of my addictions. good luck
