Trying to get a hold of this

Posted in Group:

I'm trying really hard to get a hold of my cutting. But it's kinda hard when you do dishes and the steak knifes are about three feet away from the dish drainer.....

I'm actually at school right now, and I decided it's be best to give my pins to a friend of mine to hold on to. But I don't know if that's enough. I still have the thoughts and they're almost impossible to ignore.

Can someone please help me? All I need is something to help keep me distracted. Anything will do. I just need some advice. Please and thank you~

Becca,

Are you in high school or college? Have you ever been to a therapist? How long have you been cutting? Its really important to have a professional help you- if that is not an option then it really does help to have people that you care about who can be there to support you. Good job giving your pins to a friend of yours to hold, thats shows such strength. Here is a link I like:

Please continue to post and let us know if those suggestions are helpful!

I'm in highschool and I've never been to a therapist before. I'm afraid of telling my parents cause I know it'll make them worry and I don't want that.

I haven't really been cutting that long and in fact the last time i cut was only my second time. But it scares me so much everytime I do it. Like I don't have control over my life anymore.

Thanks for the link, I'll be sure to try out some of the suggestions next chance I get~ ^^

I understand that you are worried about your parents, however, If I had a dollar for every time I heard a parent say, "If only I knew"...it saddens me to hear that. As parents, their job is to protect you, keep you safe and help you- this is a job most parents' dont take lightly. If you feel safe with your parents (meaning they are not harming you in any way and will want to help) then I really urge you to either talk with them or a counselor. trusted adult at school or family member. Feeling out of control is very scary and its likely that you are experiencing strong emotions that you do not know how to cope with in a healthy way.
One idea, if you are afraid of telling your parents about this, is to tell them that you would like to see a counselor b/c you are having "teen issues" and need extra support right now.....let them know that it is nothing serious, but that you need help working through some stuff at school with peers and feelings related to anger or depression. I do want you to lie to your parents, but if you are nervous talking to them about what is really going on let them know that you would like extra support & would like to see a therapist who works with adolescents.

Warmly,
Kellie Montgomery, LMFT

Thanks for the advice, and I took it and told him. Luckily he has a friend who's bisexual like me, and who is used to talking to teens about personal problems, (she teaches a sex class or something like that), and he said he'd email her and see if she'd be able to help me. ^^

I want to thank you for helping me~ -hugs-
